There are a lot of options to learn how to speak Spanish nowadays; it's merely a matter of deciding which way is right for you.

Spanish is the most common first language in all of the Americas. It's used in much of the United States, (California alone has well over 5 million people who speak Spanish in their homes). Then there's Africa, the Philippines, and we can't forget Spain. So if you are thinking of beginning to speak Spanish, you certainly won't have far to go to practice.

Spanish and English are roughly equal in the race to become the second most spoken and useful language around the globe. The Spanish language is gaining much more importance in world trade and commerce as the economies of Latin American countries progress. So maybe that is why a lot of people are learning how to to speak Spanish.

How to Learn

Taking continuing education classes is a long-established way to learn to speak Spanish. You have to decide if you have the time to do this. Also, if you will have the energy after a hard day's work to take in a few hours of language lessons.

More and more these days, people are using their computers to learn how to speak Spanish. There are some excellent language learning software programs available, which combine online learning with offline CDs. These language programs can be worked at your own pace and time, and can even be used in the car or while relaxing on the sofa.

It helps to make learning to speak Spanish enjoyable. Download the hundred most used Spanish phrases. Start your learning with these; try and use on a daily basis and you will be well on your way.

Another great tip is to use other resources to support your learning. Look up Spanish newspapers and read through some articles that you are familiar with. You can also check out the Spanish versions of your favorite magazines -- you would be surprised how many there are.

One last tip -- give your efforts to learn how to speak Spanish a real improvement by watching some subtitled Spanish movies. Before long you might be dreaming dreams in Spanish.
